Known Source Site Re-design

Known Source Site Re-design

Role: Team Lead, UX Researcher, UX Designer
Tools: Figma
Timeline: 2 months

Brief

For this project, my UX class collaborated with Known Source, a UK-based secondhand fashion platform focused on sustainability. Our team of three was tasked with revamping the Brands and Dealers pages to improve user engagement and conversions.

Client Goals

Dealers Page:

  • Increase user dwell time on Dealer storefronts
  • Communicate Dealer personality more effectively
  • Boost conversion rates

Brands Page:

  • Help users find brands that align with their preferences more easily

Discovery & Research

We began by conducting user interviews, with each team member speaking to two individuals about their secondhand shopping habits. Each participant completed two tasks:

  1. Finding a product they wanted to purchase from the Brands page.
  2. Identifying a Dealer that resonated with their personal style.

Using a shared FigJam file, we synthesized our findings and uncovered a key insight:
Users prioritize price and quality over the identity of individual Dealers.
This misalignment with the client's goals posed a challenge—how do we make Dealers more engaging when users are primarily price-driven?

To address this, we proposed:

  • Making Dealer style tags (e.g., Streetwear, Y2K, Athleisure) more prominent for quick visual recognition.
  • Introducing a favorite/follow feature for Dealers and Brands, allowing users to curate their experience.

Wireframing & Design

After synthesizing our research, we moved into wireframing. Below are low-fidelity sketches mapping out the user journey on mobile.

My Role: I led the redesign of the Dealers Page, ensuring that:

  • Style tags were front and center for quick filtering
  • The brand’s signature "sparkle" icon was repurposed as a like button
  • Dealer pages balanced aesthetic personality with clear product visibility

Outcome & Reflection

This project challenged me to balance client expectations with real user behavior. While the client wanted to emphasize Dealer personalities, our research showed users cared more about style fit and price. By designing solutions that addressed both perspectives, we created a more intuitive and engaging shopping experience.

As a UX designer, this experience reinforced my ability to:

  • Adapt research insights into practical design solutions
  • Advocate for user needs while aligning with business goals
  • Lead a team through a structured, research-driven design process
